Dutiful Distractions

“But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭10:40-42‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ https://bible.com/bible/114/luk.10.40-42.nkjv
The setup of the different rooms in a house is designed to invite designated activities. For example, the kitchen is setup to invite the preparation of food; while the bedroom is setup for easy go to sleep. The setup of flatscreen for entertainment in either the bedroom or kitchen is a distraction to both cooking and sleeping. When Martha invited Jesus into her house, it wasn’t designed as a restricted invitation to a discussion room. Otherwise, Martha would have had no business leaving the discussion room for the kitchen. Unfortunately, the good intention to entertain the distinguished guest, who was abandoned in the discussion room with Mary, turned the lonely engagement of Martha at the kitchen to “much serving”. Obviously, Jesus is interested in all the activities in every room in our house, if sincerely invited. Likewise, as wonderful the activities of homemakers are in the family, all activities that restrict Jesus into a corner are unnecessary and regarded as deliberate restrictions. With the invited Jesus as the Organizer and Manager of all schedules in the project of life, distractions from the good and perfect purpose for living will be impossible.
