Twisted Truth
“One of them, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth.”
Titus 1:12-14 NKJV

In today’s world of information technology, access to the truth about events and the nature of matters is relatively easier than in the days of old. Human strategic planning for self management, disaster management and the national development of state affairs are heavily dependent on the empirical records of facts. However, this truth can only be trusted when operating within the threshold of human understanding and the natural possibilities. Relationships in the household of faith are not expected to be limited to the strength of the flesh. When certain elders and prophets in Crete influence congregational relationships within the context that “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons”, they undermined the power of the cross and the possibilities of grace through faith, even with true testimony. Natural truth by facts about the state and status of believers family and career life can be discouraging and depressing; but the truth by faith in the possibilities of grace brings freedom and fellowship. Therefore, turning from the truth does not necessarily means embracing falsehood; it does means encouraging faithlessness while facing the facts of life.
