Earnest Empathy
“‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: “Take these deeds, both this purchase deed which is sealed and this deed which is open, and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may last many days.” For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: “Houses and fields and vineyards shall be possessed again in this land.” ’”
Jeremiah 32:14-15 NKJV

The state of hopelessness in an individual makes an hopeless city in no time, unless a definite recovery plan is proposed and proclaimed. The city of Jerusalem or the nation of Judah was perplexed during the reign of king Zedekiah. And while prophet Jeremiah was privileged to be the carrier of the undiluted words of God with the prophecy of devastation and captivity, he demonstrated empathy in his state of emptiness. Sequel to his awful fate in the Lord, Jeremiah was empty of fellowship with friends, family and fellow citizens for his faithfulness to the Lord. Notwithstanding, he empathized with the people by showing his confidence in the restoration of the land after their period of captivity. Punishment for sin and transgression is the gospel truth, but the peace with God, though through the pain is the glorious grace. Jeremiah exhibited the possession of both grace and truth, even in the dungeon as a victim of the people’s hopelessness. When heaven declares its verdict against the unrighteousness of men, an earnest empathy of the messenger is required for the perfect blend of the truth and grace from God.
