Good Guide
““Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: ‘Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge those who are carried away captive from Judah, whom I have sent out of this place for their own good, into the land of the Chaldeans. For I will set My eyes on them for good, and I will bring them back to this land; I will build them and not pull them down, and I will plant them and not pluck them up.”
Jeremiah 24:5-6 NKJV

God’s presentation of the plight of the Chaldean captives as good figs was a privileged revelation to prophet Jeremiah. Like the experience of Andrew Cheney in the modern day cast of the biblical Joseph in the movie ’Seasons of Grey’, it is difficult to understand the morality in the seasons of brutality experienced by those who stand straight by the truth. Even when captured and held captive to the strange land of Babylon, God maintained “I have sent (them) out of this place for their own good”. Unfortunately, not many are privileged to see the good Guide in God in times of ugly and gruesome mess of life. When we see brutality in mentorship, wickedness in workplaces, misrepresentation in fellowship, and unfair discipline or denial in diligence, it is often easy to accuse God of supporting evil and possibly being unfair. Yet, God’s promises to His good figs remain “For I will set My eyes on them for good, and I will bring them back to this land; I will build them and not pull them down, and I will plant them and not pluck them up”. Mourning for the good figs in seasons of grey is acceptable; but undeniable joy comes in the morning for those who set their eyes on the unquestionable good Guide.
