Progressive Prospects

“My son, fear the LORD and the king; Do not associate with those given to change;” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭24:21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

When the king's policies align with the precepts of the Lord, the people have little challenge in pursuing a purpose-driven life. Although this near-heaven experience represents the consistent prayer of the righteous in every sphere of life, including homes, workplaces, organizations, societies and all nations, king's policies are often at variance with the precepts of the Lord. Yet, the righteous or God-fearing believer is admonished to fear both the Lord and the king. Consequently, the greatest challenge of most children of God is retaining consistency in their convictions about the precepts of the Lord. God's precepts often find interpretation in the pseudo-policy of the government and the prevailing perception in the society. Whereas, the king's policies are given to change, depending on changes in socio-economic values of the nation, or changes in the religious and political inclinations of godfathers and the government. However, God's Word and His precepts on righteousness are settled and unchanging. "Fear the LORD and the king", and not even "fear the king and the Lord", remains the unchanging adminition. The fear of the king alone is unstable and unsustainable, finding its relevance only in the fear of the LORD. Therefore, standing with the unchanging God and His precepts, even when it means standing against the unstable policies of kings, guarantees progressive prospects in life.
